It’s hard to believe it’s already been four months – it seems like the time has flown by! He’s such a HAPPY baby, and a joy to be around. Very easy-going also. It will be interesting to see if these personality characteristics persist since they were evident even minutes after birth. Collin is definitely more the “spirited” child and Carson much more laid back. It’s a good thing, since he has to tolerate an older brother who loves him SOO much that he always wants to be in his face, entertaining him with phrases like “Peanut Butter Jello” which usually makes Carson laugh until he’s had enough.
When I see other babies I can’t believe how much bigger Carson is than them, but then again he never seemed like a newborn. He’s been sleeping in his crib for a month or so now and has been going to bed a lot earlier than a month ago. At three months he was usually up until 11 PM, and now I’m usually putting him to bed around 8:30. After dinner I try to get most the dishes done while he’s in his bouncy seat and Collin is finishing up, then take Carson for a bath and snuggle time and Mike reads to Collin. Unfortunately, Carson has regressed when it comes to night waking and now I feel like we’re going through the newborn stage we didn’t endure with him before. He used to just wake once a night to eat, and now it’s sometimes two or three times. We’ll have to put an end to that when we return from our beach vacation!
Just this week I’ve been concentrating on trying not to nurse him to sleep and spending a lot more time and energy on his “schedule/ routine” and trying to be at home more for his naps which should hopefully help. This is a big transition when you have a preschooler to entertain and you’re not a homebody type person. But I’ve realized it’s important for Carson to be getting his naps in his crib rather than sleeping in his car seat, which he did so well at for several months. I guess it’s about time that I now have to rearrange my life to accommodate Carson’s changing schedule, since he’s been so flexible until now.
This was the first week of summer that we haven’t had something for Collin driving our schedule and it’s been rather nice. It was very enjoyable to have time to visit with friends without having to be somewhere else. The first week it was tennis camp from 9-10, the next VBS at Mt. Bethel from 12:30-3:30, then VBS at JF (Collin’s school) that we all went to last week from 8:45-12:00. It’s no wonder we haven’t had a chance to get into a routine yet! So, this week I’ve made Carson’s routine the priority and tried to pay attention to when he wants to sleep. Of course, it’s still hard when we have plans for Collin to be at playgroup at 10 (Wed), or me to be at Bible study (Thurs) or our running/playground outing and swim lessons on Mondays. But we’re trying to make it work and I feel like I have a better grasp of what he needs than I did last week. Collin actually likes to be at home and have friends over to play, so we’ll be doing more play dates rather than running all over the place, which is good for gas consumption also, an important consideration with gas now hitting the $4 mark.
Carson is getting even bigger – as confirmed by his measurements at his four-month doctor’s visit. He’s still greater than 95th percentile in height (at 27 inches) and his weight has increased from the 75th to 85th percentile (16 pounds, 12 ounces). He still doesn’t love tummy time but rolls over occasionally. He began sitting in his Bumbo chair and sits with us at the table sometimes or on the counter to watch me cook. He laughs a lot and flirts with anyone who will talk to him. Such a sweet boy!
