Cardinals Game

The Cardinals came to Turner Field to play the Braves, so of course we had to go. It was Carson's 1st Cardinal game, but not his first Braves game. We planned to go Tuesday night but it was raining so we went down on Wednesday which was a good choice. Cards beat the Braves 3 out of 4 games and we saw a winning game!

Carson is 5 months old!

We traveled back from our Voegtle family Kentucky Lake trip on Carson's 5-month birthday. He travels pretty well, but not quite as easily as last month's trip to the beach when he was in a separate car from his brother (with Nana & Papa in the Mazda) and could sleep the entire way without being woken up by Collin's excitement. Normally it's great to watch Collin entertain Carson in the car and watch Carson laugh at Collin's "Peanut Butter Jello", but for a trip longer than a few hours it's best for Carson to sleep. Carson is a lot more animated and interactive this month which makes things really fun! He's found his feet over the last week or so and pulls on his toes or puts them in his mouth, which Mike thinks is really gross. He still loves to kick his legs and move his arms a lot, especially when he gets excited. He's been teething for over a month now but there's nothing breaking through. He wants to put everything in his mouth but has shown less interest in the pacifier recently. My finger is a favorite, but he's also interested in toys and teethers now, like his apple or frog.

He's still such an amazingly flexible and happy baby but does best when I keep him on a consistent schedule. I'm pretty good about making a morning nap a priority, which varies any time between 8:30 and 10, depending on what we're doing and what time we awake. This makes it a little hard to get out in the morning like we used to, but Collin's been having more friends over which he enjoys.

Carson still has a blond streak in the front of his hair but all his hair has lightened a bit and maybe even thinned. This makes me sad to think that he might loose his beautiful baby hair...I can see some blond hair coming in so he'll probably be blond too. It will be interesting to see if everyone still thinks he looks like me when he has blond hair like his brother and dad. Other unique features are a dimple on his right cheek and an indention in his chin. He has rather dark complexion, as much as I try to avoid the sun with him...Tall, dark & handsome!

He's starting to "talk" more, especially when talked to. He wants everyone to pay attention to him and loves when I touch his toes to his nose. I try to do tummy time each morning on the back porch, while I do yoga and exercises. He doesn't love tummy time but can tolerate it for a short time as long as I'm doing it with him. I'm guessing he won't be crawling super early, since he's a big baby and so laid back.

Kentucky Lake

We took our 2nd annual Kentucky Lake trip with the Voegtles. One of the great things about doing something with Laura, Mike's sister is that she writes more on her blog than I ever do, so I don't have to. If you want to read the details, go to Laura's blog - she describes everything from our cottages to the mosquitos, mini-tennis to mini-golf, the pool & fishing to visiting Kentucky Dam. As you can see, Grandma spent lots of time reading to her grandkids. Collin loved seeing all his cousins!

Hilton Head - Carson's 1st Beach trip

We went to Hilton Head, SC with Mom & Dad and stayed at a Mariott Timeshare on the beach. Check out Mom's pics from the week by clicking here.

Collin loved playing in the sand, building sand castles & villages and playing in the waves. He also enjoyed playing in the many pools on the resort, including the one right below our room. Carson didn't love the beach or sand but was a good traveler, sleeping most of the way in the car. We rented bikes & Collin rode on a kid bike extension for the first time, which was fun. We played miniature golf and enjoyed several nice dinners out. One night we went to Harbor Town & enjoyed a beautiful view of the water from our table. We were able to see a DOLPHIN swimming in the water below us which was pretty amazing.

4th of July

Collin rode his bike in two 4th of July parades this year - the first on Wednesday at church following playgroup, and the second on the 4th in our neighborhood. He loves his bike and enjoyed decorating it.

I ran in my first Peachtree Road Race 10 K, which is an Atlanta tradition. It's the world's largest 10 K and there were bands all along the race path, which made for a fun run. Unfortunately, Carson decided to stage a hunger strike and didn't eat for 5 hours since he didn't want to take a bottle.

For lunch Mike BBQ'd hamburgers, then we went to the pool and then to our friends' Ted & Jen's for chilli before the fireworks. Carson did GREAT through all the fireworks even though it was way past his bedtime, despite the picture of him before he had eaten. I think he has to be one of the most laid back babies ever! Collin enjoyed the fireworks too, but not as much as playing with all his friends. Even though he'd been talking about fireworks for a year, he still wanted to get up and play with his friends rather than sit down and watch with his parents. I think the glow sticks and sparklers were more fun even though we had a great view of an awesome fireworks show.
